One of the things that separates The Wilson Academy from other private schools, in terms of standardized test preparation, is that we teach standardized test prep as part of our curriculum. Students at The Wilson Academy are very prepared for standardized tests, and our results prove it. For the last three years, The Wilson Academy middle school students have outscored the average Dekalb County and Georgia middle school student in both the ITBS and the CRCT. Our high school students excel on standardized tests as well. In fact, as a Sophomore, Fred Ede Jr. scored in the top 10% in the state of Georgia on the ACT, and scored in the top 15% in the entire nation.
Our students certainly perform well on standardized tests, but there is a method behind their success. They are very well prepared. This is significantly due in large part to our certified standardized tester, reading diagnostician, and curriculum advisor Barbara Wilson-Dupree, author of the acclaimed book series Phonics Fun. A Master educator, Barbara Wilson-Dupree uses her over 40 years of teaching experience to assess each student at The Wilson Academy, and develop a plan to maximize his or her testing performance. She also conducts a weekly writing workshop exclusively for students of The Wilson Academy.
As for our high school students, familiarity is key. That is why we require our high school students to take either the SAT or the ACT at least once each year, and we encourage them to take both each year.
