My purpose has always been preparation. I want our students to leave The Wilson Academy prepared to conquer life’s many challenges. Foremost, I believe in holistic development. Most private schools pay little to no attention to social and emotional growth, yet they expect students to excel. The middle and high school student is typically consumed with social and emotional issues, and if not properly mentored, many students will never reach their potentials. I take pride in the fact that we have cultivated an environment in which students can be themselves; where being unique is embraced rather than discouraged.

Education must be relevant. I believe in giving students practical, current, and useful information, in addition to the traditional subject matter. This is why we have a financial focus. As educators we cannot determine which profession an individual student will choose. But what is certain is that they will earn money. How they manage that money, and how to create more of it, is relevant regardless of one’s profession.

College preparation is critical, but it isn’t as simple as exposing students to “elevated” subject matter. The primary skills necessary to succeed in college are time management, reading & comprehension, writing skill, basic math skill, and study skills. The Wilson Academy is designed to strengthen students’ skills in these areas.

It pains me when I see so many of our Metro-Atlanta young people. I see them in our malls, pants sagging, spouting profanity, wearing certain attire to claim gang affiliation. Teenage pregnancy rates are high, and graduation rates are low. But we at The Wilson Academy refuse to accept this as the norm. We hold our students to a higher standard. Upon meeting a Warrior, you will notice there is something different about him or her. You’ll notice a sense of confidence, pride, and leadership.

What I commit to our private school students and parents is to never become complacent. I am always seeking new methods of academic inspiration. Our goal is to make improvements every year, and this approach has made us one of the premier private schools in Dekalb County, GA. If you are a part of The Wilson Academy family, you know this to be true.
